Kids' Place

A Good Idea

Description

Kids' Place provides a safe after-school environment for the children of Tazewell County. Many families who need child care find it either unavailable or unaffordable. The Kids' Place program seeks to meet these needs through an affordable, after-school program. Children between the ages of 4 and 13 are eligible to participate, and can either be transported by parents or schools to the designated sites. The program operates daily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. five days per week and provides (1) assistance to students with homework; (2) arts and crafts; (3) interaction activities; and (4) USDA-approved snacks and meals. Each site is staffed with one teacher and one teacher's aide at all times; in addition, volunteers and parents are encouraged to visit and participate in all activities. The program expands to a Summer Camp during the summer months. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
